Member Updates
For
each newsletter, we reach out to members for their stories of what they
have been up to. Whether its travel, spending time with the grand
kids, volunteer work or what ever, we provide their short summaries. Its
a great way to hear about colleagues we haven't seen for awhile.

I have been happily retired for 4 1/2 years....that's it for now

Retirement life is busy but simply wonderful. Spending time with our family, our children, and grandchildren. Hope to travel again soon. Wishing everyone a happy and fun summer.
Betty Barr
We are sending prayers and good thoughts to Betty right now as she is having a very difficult time. “I’m dealing with my mom right now. She’s in last minute palliative care. She’s being moved to Oshawa, and we must clean out her retirement home.”

Keeping well and enjoying being semi-retired with a part time HR Manager position for a small international distribution company in Markham (OK it was full time in COVID managing so many changes in a workforce, but hours are reducing now)!
Still live in Pickering with first grandchild on the way in August and fit in swimming a few times a week now that the gyms are open again. Look forward to seeing other retirees especially the great gang in HR – miss everyone!

My wife Sheila and I are well. We have helped our three grandkids with online learning when called upon. Our last vacation was March 2019. Our daughter Lisa, a nurse working through Covid had to postpone a vacation two years ago and is now looking forward to finally getting away.
Janice Napier
When I retired in January 2013, I wanted to volunteer to fill in some of my “free” time. After travelling for a couple of years, it was time to figure out the type of volunteering I would love to do. Janice has been a person who rescues dogs. She has a column in our June 2022 Newsletter. She will have another column in our next September Newsletter so stay tuned.
Marjorie and Gord Brown
Gord and I spent the winter in Florida. We enjoyed our 5 months with our Florida family doing boat trips and date nights with the group from the park and just relaxing. We returned home April 15 and had no problem at the border. We had previously completed the Arrive Canada app which made the crossing at the border much easier.
However, we arrived in cold weather and a couple of snowfalls. Today is Wednesday April 20th and we were off to the Upper Canada Mall to walk for exercise. The Mall allows us to enter at 8 am before it is open to customers at 10 am. After walking our 2 miles we have coffee with our group.
We would like to say thank you to the Enbridge Gas Retiree Club program for the gift of the keychain, bottle opener/nail clipper we found in our stack of mail upon our return. Mailed to us by Mr. Warren Dickert.

My wife, Elaine, and I live on a 50-acre parcel of land that belonged to her parents before us. All-Ways Windy Farm, as we named it, is in south-east Grey County or about 20 kilometres south-west of Collingwood.
We hire a local farmer to farm the land for us. Last year my wife got a small flock of chickens (I get to help) and we sell eggs locally to individuals plus some nearby stores. I'm also President of the Feversham Agricultural Society which hosts a large Fall Fair each September.
Last August our daughter and son-in-law welcomed their daughter and our first grandchild into the world. And this June our son and daughter-in-law
are expecting their first child, a baby boy. They live in St. John's so it means a road trip to Newfoundland for Elaine and me which will be our third visit to the island since they moved there in 2018.
I look forward to reading about how everyone is doing and to the possibility of attending a social event soon.

When it was time to retire, I decided to leave Toronto and found the bit of land I was looking for on the Beamsville Bench on the Niagara Escarpment where I had a house built and just love it here. (Can see Toronto across the lake on a good day.)
I was in Florida in early March of 2020 but got home just before the Covid shutdown. My daughters live in Peterborough and Burlington, and I have a granddaughter who is graduating from Ottawa U. this year. Another granddaughter is in her second year at Laurier. Yet another granddaughter is starting high school. I have a grandson in grade 6 who plays soccer and is crazy over Lego.
I have always enjoyed fiber arts and quilt which was a great sanity saver during Covid! But will be glad to travel again.
Elaine Mills
Elaine lost her husband, Karl on April 19, 2022. Elaine and Karl have been married for 52 years. Lilly, Elaine’s daughter currently works for Enbridge. Please keep them in our thoughts.
Tara Seon
Since retiring in 2007 I have volunteered for two assignments (about 1.5 years total) with MSF (Doctors Without Borders) in South Sudan and Holland, the former enabling me to visit many countries in Africa. With friends, we started a charity - Malamulele Onward provides support and care to children with cerebral palsy in South Africa. I earned a Masters in Sociology, have been active locally in a club for seniors and was happy to have been approached to help get the GTA Lamplighters Club off the ground.
My ‘adventure travel’ style-preference (with my husband, friends, family – and alone) provided me unique perspectives of - and in - many of the countries I was introduced to by my high-school Geography teacher many, many years ago.
Bob and I love our two daughters dearly, as we do our three (soon to be four) grandchildren. We unashamedly admit to being besotted grandparents and it still amazes us we could love those little beings so unconditionally and completely.
Gerry Rieck
Gerry
lost her husband Helmut; they had been married for forty-one years on May 9th.
Helmut was a contractor (Nortown Natural Gas)for Consumers Gas/ Enbridge. Gerry
worked for Enbridge and Accenture before her retirement. He is survived
by Gerry, 5 children and 8 grandchildren. Many of their family, friends
and Enbridge employees attended the funeral on May 19th.

My wife Mary Anne and I retired in January of 2013 and since we entered this new phase in our life, retirement has been wonderful. We have travelled across Canada both ways but our favourite province in this country, by far, is Newfoundland and Labrador. We have visited Newfoundland for six weeks each visit (2014 and 2017) and are going back this summer to stay in Norris Point for the month of August. We love the spectacular scenery, the culture and best of all, the people.
We live in Horseshoe Valley immediately adjacent to the 4,400-acre Copeland Forest. Mary Anne and I are active and enjoy our summer sports including mountain biking, road riding and hiking. In the winter we enjoy cross country skiing, downhill skiing, and hiking. We have usually taken two or three camping trips each year, favourite spots being Killbear and Algonquin Provincial Parks and especially to the parks along the east and north shores of Lake Superior.
We have four beautiful grandchildren, three close by here, a 15-year-old granddaughter, and 12- and 10-year-old grandsons and one granddaughter who was born in England in May of 2021. Last September we spent six wonderful weeks in England with our son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter.
Our three Ontario grandchildren are homeschooled and live close by which provides us with tremendous opportunities to spend time with them. Being the “outdoor grandparents”, we have enjoyed teaching them each of our sports and have also enjoyed taking them on an annual camping trip to Algonquin Park. This September we are planning to take them to
Temagami for their first wilderness canoe trip and are really looking forward to that.
Considering everything mentioned above and as we age, I am sure that everyone will agree, nap time has become increasingly important. Hi to all retirees and I wish everyone good health and happiness.
