About Agincourt Community Services - Lee Soda, Executive Director

This year, 2024 ACSA Community Services marks its 50th year milestone.  When ACSA was launched in 1974, it was responding to the emerging needs of the changing Scarborough landscape based on the desire to offer a “hand up” to neighbours in need. ACSA is well rooted in community, responding to the gaps and needs taking hold in our neighbourhoods. I’m sure the original intent did not include running a food bank 50 years into the future…and yet, here we are running the largest food bank in the City of Toronto.

Food Bank

ACSA Community Services serves over 238,000 households yearly through our Foodbank and over 74,000 meals to people struggling with housing precarity or homelessness. These households are made up of working men and women, seniors, children, newly arrived citizens to our city, people with physical disabilities, mental health issues and the one common thread that runs through all people accessing the foodbank is that they all struggle with the effects of poverty.

ACSA Services

  • As a multi-service organization we also provide services to Newcomers by providing one on one case management and ensuring they have the tools they need to climatize to our country.
  • We provide support by serving 500 families daily through after-school programs. These programs include Kindergarten readiness and breakfast programs that have served 6,075 children in the past 6 months.
  • ACSA works to provide immediate support to those experiencing homelessness and to advocate for housing solutions. Our goal is to empower indiviuals and families, helping them secure stable affordable housing and ensuring their rights are protected.

ACSA has an incredible team of staff and volunteers, along with a dedicated Board of Directors (our current Board Chair, Manny Sousa, a former Enbridge employee)  that care about where they live and believe in creating a bridge between those who can help those in need. ACSA is an incredible agency, supporting all people, and in particular those most vulnerable in our community. Fifty years later,ACSA is still working to shine a spotlight on the deep inequities in our comunities and speak up to ensure that all people have what they need to live healthy thriving lives.
